The Swim Cave

A purpose-built swimming and family activity centre in Stone

Welcome to The Swim Cave.

Created by swimming teacher Gareth Underhill, The Swim Cave was built to make swimming lessons a better experience for children and their parents.

From the warm pools and thoughtful changing facilities to the comfortable viewing area, everything has been designed with families in mind.

The Swim Cave opened in 2015, with The Cove added in 2020. Today, the building is home to a number of independent swimming and family activity providers, all making use of our purpose-built facilities.

Built with families in mind

After years of teaching swimming, Gareth knew there had to be a better way.

He wanted somewhere purpose-built for swimming lessons. Somewhere warm and welcoming for young children, comfortable for parents and clean and easy to use when you have a baby or young child with you.

Most importantly, he wanted to create somewhere that helped children feel comfortable and safe in the water.

That’s what The Swim Cave was built to do.

And we’ve tried to carry that thinking through every part of the building.

Two warm, purpose-built pools

The Lagoon

Our lagoon pool measures 12m x 6m and is 1.2m deep.

It’s generally used for older children and swimmers who are ready for a little more depth.

The Cove

The Cove was added in 2020 and measures 10m x 5m, with a depth of 1.1m.

It’s a lovely space for younger swimmers and smaller children to build their confidence in the water.

Always 31°C

Both pools are kept at a comfortable 31°C.

We have a bit of an anti-dither policy at The Swim Cave. We don’t want swimmers or parents standing around feeling cold before, during or after a lesson.

It’s not just about the pools

We’ve thought about the bits in between too.

There are baby seats in every shower, making it easier for parents to shower with their little one. The changing areas have been designed to give families the space they need to get themselves and their children ready without feeling rushed.

There are children’s-height hairdryers, plenty of room for parents to watch lessons, a comfortable viewing area, tables, a coffee machine and vending machines.

And there’s free parking directly outside the building.

Because when you’ve got a baby or young child with you, the little things really do matter.
